Well, my oldest daughter and son in law flew in from Las Vegas for a weeks vacation and they wanted a lake trip. (BTW when they landed in Houston the humid heat just about knocked them over!!)
They invited their siblings and significant others... I rented a new cabin on Lake Whitney with a lake view. The lake was 14! foot low and all the State Parks were high and dry. Cliff View resort had a boat ramp that went down to the old river channel and they just added on to the ramp when they built the damn. The ramp worked like a charm and the channel going out to the main lake channel was clear. I parked at the boat dock in front of the cabin for a couple of days and then poop hit the fan. Evidently, a neighbor 3 houses down owned the dock and she was not happy her neighbor was renting.... We named her "Swamp Lady" She was not agreeable to any arrangement. Oh well I found another slip further away.
I found out early where the old river channel was and I also found several stumps I had no idea existed!!! Thinking back it would make sense that large trees would be next to the river channel and 100-150 yards away from the cliffs?? So I have been going 40-50 mph over very large trees in previous years and had no idea. woops. The new boat with the 4 blade 19 pitch did fantastic with a full load of gas and 6 people. Only problem that happened was that I hooked the anchor in a tree limb and had to cut the rope....poo. All in all a great trip.
PS The first Picture with all the dead grass. . . . The cabin owners had pictures from previous years and that field in front of the cabin was all bluebonnets!!
