I am looking...........Just waiting on life to get back to normal and building my emergency fund back up. After thats in place I will be in a better situation to get another boat. I'm leaning towards a 27-29ft cruiser w/trailer and all the good stuff such as a/c, generator, shower/toilet etc. We like to hit different lakes and that always means paying for a place to stay at so I think this way I will save on that cost. I'm not looking for high end, just clean and dependable and well taken care of in 99-02 year range. It won't be this year but hopefully next because I hope to pay cash.
Well, Alrighty then. Sounds like you have a plan at least. My 18 is just sittin the shop while I wait on life to assemble into some sort of normal. Lately, "normal" has been just a controled chaos. Crazy stuff just keeps happnin. Go Figure! #1 Rule - $h!t Happens.

Mark I think its more of a wish list want list than a plan. You and I have both been around the block enough times to know plans don't always happen. We get more patient as we get older.
I've let 2 really good deal slip thru in the past 2 weeks. Both were projects but not major ones. First was a 32' Trojan sedan bridge with trailer, mostly cosmetics and unsure of engines, twin mercruiser 305 228hp's. Engines were winterized this past winter but current owner never started them this year. Alot of cleaning and updating needed to be done and did not have any modern day goodies since it was a 74 but I could have picked it up for 4k. Second was a 98 Regal 1900 outstanding condition, indoor kept on a trailer most of it's life. Cons it had a cracked block (GM305) from that crazy freeze we had in Feb or March. Pro's it had a great factory trailer, full cover, bimini and they only wanted 2k for it. I slept on it over night because it really was not what I was looking for but could have been a fairly cheap fix and it would get me on the water this year, or even in a couple weekends from now. Any way as they say "You snooze, you lose".
I'm sure the one will show up when you least expect it. I recently came across an 86' CV-23 for $3500.00. It was lake ready. 260 MCM, Thru the hull, Carlson Trailer and READY!!! Nice condition. Damn the luck.

Hey Glenn ... if ya want to, you can borrow this one, we ain't got enough water here to put it in, all it needs to be lake ready is a motor and drive, floor in the back ... oh, and a steering wheel for the upper station. I got the motor and drive sitting in the garage, just waiting on someone like you to "stick it in
I've been all over this boat, no issues with fit and finish or Tiawan issues. Its made by the Brunswick company but its not a bayliner, associated but not one.
A cadillac is not a Chevy, but associated, a Chrysler is not a Dodge, but associated.
We had a survey done on it that the guy spent 6 hrs on it. Again no issues, purely cosmetics, knob missing on VHF, a small stain on the carpet, bad wiper blade and a couple other things. Absolutely no mechanicle or hull issues. The surveyoy is concidered the best in the area and also Host a Nationally syndicated Boat radio show. No spider cracks, no dock rash, does not take on water etc etc. I see it as no difference than Glastron, most boat owners feel Glastrons and Carlsons are on the lower end of the tier aswell compared to Sea Ray, Crownline, Baja and so on.....haters gonna hate! Its the nature of the world.
I had 3 boats we were looking at, a 30 Cris Craft, 34' Sea ray and this one....I chose it over those by a landslide, and of coarse the surveys that came back on them.
I'm ok with your opinion on the brand, or anyones elses opinion on it for that matter. I also understand this is not the Rolls Royce of boats.....I don't have that kind of budget.
I'm ok with my decision on this boat also, there are negatives on every brand on Google, I did do a search on this one as well as many others.
I'm not upset or offended in any way either.
This is an OLD boat, about 11-12 years old and I'm sure if it had any flaws it would have shown its ugly head by now.
This is also a one owner boat, seller has moved up and is slipping 6 down from me, he will have to walk by me going and coming. Atleast for the next 12 months since I just signed a 1 year lease.
I guess I got lucky that this was the only boat they built that did not turn out to be junk.
There's also an owners forum like most brands and noone seems to be complaining about the brand, I've spent the last 10 days perusing the forum.
And don't worry, it's not going to cost you a cent and I'm not going to ask you to do any maintenance on it.
I had more negative remarks from people when I owned the new Glastron than I did good ones.
Oh well I guess it could have been worse... I could have bought a Cris Craft .
Hey Walt, I'm suprized you'd slam the Maxim boats like that to Glenn, but, I know you have the right to your opinion, just like anyone else, and I got mine too, and a few facts about the Bayliner corp, Brunswick corp. Bayliner is the world's largest manufacturer of recreational boats. Established in 1957 by Orin Edson, Bayliner currently has over 400 dealers in over 60 countries around the world. The company operates as part of the Brunswick Boat Group, a division of the Brunswick Corporation. Bayliner was acquired by Brunswick from Orin Edson in 1986 for $425 million. Bayliner facilities are located in Knoxville, Tennessee, Dandridge, Tennessee and Arlington, Washington, in the United States;and in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, in Mexico. Bayliner also has a plant in Portugal for the European market.
the Brunswick company was established in America in the late 1800's, celebrating their 100th birthday in 1945, one of the leading fortune 500 companies in the world. The Brunswick corp. has owned 33 boat manufacturing companies, but only 14 now, including SeaRay, Boston Whaler, Chrestliner, Hatteras, Lowe, Lund, Tritan, Trophy, Quicksilver and Mercury Marine. Former Mercury Marine President K Brooks Abernathy, became the chairman and CEO of Brunswick in 1976 and in 1978 another former Mercury Marine president Jack Reichert became Brunswick's President and chief operating officer, they do have the marine background.
My point .. one of the reasons there is so many Bayliners on the market, rough and rotted, cracked up interior, and stripped, is because they Were, as you stated, entry level boats, but Not because they were cheaper made than most of the other boats, but because they were affordable to most average income families, and usually their first boats, not taken care of as someone paying Much more for a nice boat. The Bayliners, Maxum, boats are very stylish, in fact, the Bayliner Capri has been one of the worlds most selling boat for several years, and a nice style since the 80's, it has been boat of the year in boating magizine's more than Glastron, it's hull, the sesquencial lift, has a striking resemblence to the Glastron aqua lift, the hulls are built light weight, just like the Glastron /Carlsons, same genneral vinal uphoulstry, no partical board, and they are running the same power plants as the Glastrons, and just like the Glastron Carlsons, they are fast, reliable and stylish, but there are a kazillion of them. I have owned, bought, sold, cut up, probably 9 or 10 Bayliners, and I have not seen near as much crazing and cracking in the gelcoat as I have the Carlsons, like, hardly any. You know I have cut up a Lot of boats, Bayliners, Cobalts, Sea Ray's, and some Glastron Carlsons, the Cobalt and the SeaRay, have a thicker hull, much heavier boats, but the Bayliner, the Carlsons, and most of the others in comparible size, the same, lightweight construction, same plywood, same interior material, same instrumentation, and Mercruiser motors and drives fit em all, and come in most.
Oh Well .. enough about that, how the hell are ya Walt, where ya been, what have ya been up too ? and Yes, I'm still messin with the Scimitar. I took it to the Red Wing show last year, had a Great time, the boat ran better up there in that cool water, cool humid air, than it ever has down here, got 75mph out of it with 5 sob and about 25 gallos of gas. I didn't get to make it up there this year, but Barb took her Intimidator, won the best over all boat award, and she out-run every up there ... well, except Bob's CV-19 with those two LS1 corvette motors it it ... that sucker will Fly.
I haven't hade my boat out in a year half plus because of the the droght on Lake Travis. Miss you if you sell the site. I want to go to Broken Bow in June
