Here are a few pictures of my new project. I just picked it up today! It's a '58 Glastron Seaflite, and my other boat is a '58 Glastron Fireflite! Pretty cool! I got a way good deal! Whoever had it before did a hack-job on it, and tried to make it into a bass boat...horrible! It's like taking a '57 Chevy and cutting it up and making it into a garbage truck!! So I've got my work cut out for me! I'm pretty excited to have a winter project, and I can take my time workin' on it, cuz I have something to take out on the lake already. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.

Like I was saying, the previous owner wanted a bass boat, or some kind of platform to fish off of. So he thought he should find a nice rare boat and hack it to pieces!! The platform looked kinda cool, but when I tore it out, there were holes a-plenty! I don't think he ever got it in the water, or it would've been at the bottom of a lake right now. Pretty much every compartment in the hull was full of water from his hacking and sawing!...Idiot!! So here's some pix!

The kids are pretty excited to help me on this project, so I put 'em to work helping me scrub out the inside. All the flotation chambers are full of ice, it's slowly melting. When it's all dry, I'll seal them up again. Right now I'm working on the trailer, grinding the rust off and painting pieces. Also, cleaning the bearings so I can re-pack them with fresh grease!...Fun, fun!!

Here's an update on the trailer resto. I sanded down all the metal, and cleaned it with wax and grease remover. I'm almost done spraying it with truck bedliner coating, then I can put it all back together.

Ya got that right!! I think I may have a parts boat lined up! It should have everything I need including motor, controls, steering, gas tank, lines, and even a windshield! It's a late '60s so it shouldn't be that far off. I'll keep you up to date on what happens. I actually had one lined up last week, and the guy sold it out from under me!
But whatchagonnado??

Correction: This boat is a '58 Glastron Surfflite, not a Seaflite. They are both very similar, but the Seaflite is a 17 footer, and the Surfflite is 15'. I measured, and it's a Surfflite!

I'm still trying to find a bit of marine carpet to finish off the trailer, but other than that it's done! Here's a pic of the motor I found to use on this boat. It's a '65 Evinrude Starflight 90 S. It should do just fine!

Thanx! The project has been stalled for a little while. I started running 2 miles a day after work, and been doing it for almost a month now! But after the run, I lose all motivation to do anything! Hopefully when it gets warmer, I'll be able to jump back into it!

I've been fiberglassin! I had to glass in anywhere there is a hole in the bottom of the boat. I've been using the chopped fiberglass because it works better for smaller areas. If I try and cut the weave matte too small it just falls apart. I've also been trying out the polyester resin. It seems to work fine, and it is a lot cheaper than the epoxy resin. The layers of glass on the transom is just the start to a long process!

If you scroll up a little bit and look at the picture of my trailer when I said it was almost done, you will see that I still had to cover one of the pieces of wood with carpet. Well, I could NOT find any carpet that would match the other side, very annoying! A few weeks ago, I just happen to come across a set of bunk rollers for free! So I took the original mounts, cut them down, and had them welded directly to the bottom of the rollers. I scrubbed them down, masked up the rollers, and painted them with truck bed liner, and mounted them up! The trailer's done...finally!!

Rollers are great, the T-179 has them with factory walk around diamond plate running boards. Just always, always, always x 5 remember to secure extra toungue strap to the winch along with transom straps if you have them. They come off the trailer very easy, almost happened (fingers crossed) to me.
The one I use on the tongue has a loop on one end that you can run and loop thru itself on any framing. The other end has clip/hook with a cinch type clasp in the middle to tighten it like straps simular to ratchet straps. I'm pretty sure I got it Academy Sports.
This is the thread showing the '58 Glastron Surfflite boat I am now selling, and the trailer that I just restored that is also for sale. First reasonable offer accepted! :)

There is a picture of the outboard motor about half way up this thread. It's a '64 or '65 Evinrude Starflite 90-S V4 which set a new world speed record back in 1960 of 122.9MPH!

I noticed this thread, and had to comment. I did sell this boat, motor, and trailer, all to different people. I had to ditch a couple of my projects as they were starting to pile up, and I was so busy with other things. I do have my yellow '58 Glastron Fireflite still, shown as my avatar.
