Looks like his winch strap came up latched.  I've had that happen but the boat didn't come off the trailer, just slid back a few feet.

i was trying to help the guy get the boat back on the trailer and i asked him what had happened and this is his response. "i sprayed my bunks with silicon so that the boat would slide on and off the trailer easier and i forgot about it when i pulled the boat out".
he never hooked the strap to the boat before he pulled it out and this is the result.

Now that's funny. Ooops. I'm surprised he admitted doing such a fool thing. I guess he don't know that to make the boat load easier, just put the trailer a little deeper in the water........ DOH!

What a coincidence!  I got the Fireflite in the water last week, and we did get to have some fun.  Although we had a few technical difficulties.  My winch broke too, but luckily my bro caught it, and held it while we hauled it out of the water.  I just got a nice new heavy duty winch, and installed it.  SWEET!   One of the coil spark wires came loose, we lost power, and fouled  the plugs tryin to get back to the dock.  The hand screws came loose on the motor mount, so the motor was sitting wierd on the transom.  (It is bolted to the transom, so no chance of losing it in the drink!)   We had a little problem with taking on water too, so I filled the clam shell with clear silicone caulk, and sealed the joint where the top and bottom half of the boat go together.  Also the steering nut came off, so we had no steering.  It had been stripped, but I thought it would hold, apparantly not.  I'm gonna replace the spark plugs, but I think I need new coils too.....Okay, we had a lot of technical difficulties, but that's just called workin' out the kinks!wink

Okay, everyone got their 'thinkin caps' on?
My manual says I should use the Champion spark plug J4J, or UJ4J, which are unavailable anymore, so I need to use the J4C.  All of these plugs are equivalent to the NGK B7S.  I currently have the NGK B6S, but I don't know why.  I talked to a Merc guy, and he says NGKs don't do well in older outboards, Champions work better, and he recommends the Champion J6C for the higher elevations here in Utah.  I just want to find the right plug, any thoughts???confuse

I recently installed NGK BR7HIX Iridium plugs in my '86 90 Evinrude & couldn't be happier with the results. Smoother idle & low speed cruising thru no wake zones are the most noticeable improvements.

Dunno if they had anything to do with setting my latest speed record of 54.2 but maybe?

So long as you're within the right heat range I don't see any reason why they shouldn't work in your motor. Old or new?

Yeah, me too!!  ;)     Okay, so I got my new winch installed like I posted before.  I put some shock absorbers on the trailer, cuz my leaf springs were tired out.  I tightened the motor mount bolts and put some extra locking nuts on there, so they're not moving again!   I sealed up all the bolt holes with silicone, also all the seams where the boat comes together.  I fixed the coil wires, so they won't pop off in the middle of the lake.  I put in new spark plugs, and  a heli-coil where someone had stripped a plug hole.  (Don't look at me!) ;)   My brother and I  took off the steering cable nut which was stripped, and fabricated a piece to replace it, which turned out quite nice!  It is NOT coming off again!!    All I need is a couple of new coils and we'll be skimming the water once more!   Yeah baby!!biggrin

Hey all, check out this sweet prop I found.  The aluminum three blade 21 pitch was just too high for my boat, so I got this two blade brass prop 15 pitch, that was worked down to a 14 pitch.  It was in nasty shape with gobs of lake gunk on it!  So, I started on it with a wire wheel on my drill, then sanded it with my D/A sander, then wet sanded it, and finally buffed it with rubbing compound.   Now it is all shiny and nice!!  We are gonna try it out tomorrow!biggrin

Maybe if I posted on a new thread, I would have better luck!  The new prop worked great!!  We got planing very fast, and it yanked up a wakeboarder and waterskiier with ease!....excellent!!  About half way through the day, I was coming in to the dock, threw it into reverse, it worked for a second, but then we just kept on going!  We bumped the dock, but not too hard.  But come to find out I had LOST MY NEW PROP!!no   AAARRRGH!!furious  We figured out that the spacer was too fat for this prop, and the nut washer didn't have any spines to hold on to!!  So it just came off!  Then at that exact moment when we were raising the motor, one of the hydraulic lines blew!   The hydraulic line isn't that big of a deal, but I'm very upset to have lost that nice vintage two blade brass prop that I just got a few days ago!!!!  Luckily we are pretty sure it came off right by the dock.  I dove down a few times with no luck.  I only had a second or two to search before I had to come back up for air.  It's quite deep for being by the dock.   Maybe I'll see if I can find someone who can scuba dive that'll be willing to help me out?
Like it was posted before, "Why do we admit to these things???"hmm

We had a really nice trip to the lake last week with no major break-downs!....but what is it with dropping stuff in the lake???   The trip out when I lost my prop in the lake, we lost our prop, my sunglasses, one watershoe, and my swim suit, but luckily I had it on over my wet suit, so no major embarrassment!bleh  This last trip we dropped in the lake our new ski flag (no, it doesn't float!!), one docking rope (It also doesn't float when it's coiled up), my ratching screwdriver, a wake board bolt, and a ski glove!   One good thing about the day was that my wife put our car keys on the bumper of her dad's truck.  We realized that she had left them there like two minutes after he had driven away.  So, I jumped in with my brother and took off after him, all the while looking at the road expecting to find that they had fallen off somewhere.  We finally caught up to him about 10 miles down the road, and there they were STILL sitting on his bumper!!....AMAZING!!   His truck must have one smooth ride!biggrin

About half way down this thread, I said that I added some shock absorbers to my trailer cuz the leaf springs were pretty worn out, and new leaf springs are pricey!!  They worked okay when you are drivin' down the freeway and you hit a bump, but when you are going slow around a corner, it still lets one side bottom out!  So I ripped them off, fabricated a cross member, and installed some motorcycle shocks/springs!  It turned out really good, and works great!!  I took a few pics...

Check and see if theres a Redneck Trailer Supply any where near you, they have anything you could ever want for a trailer, including springs for WAY less than tractor supply or northern tool.   I put a pair of 3000 lb axles with electric brakes + wheels & tires & springs under my trailer for less than $800.00 everything brand new.   Would have been twice that at northern.

***UPDATE***
If you read about halfway up this thread on my June 7th post, I said that I lost the prop that I just got that week!  I lost it at the end of the dock, so I had tried to dive for it but it was just too deep.  I talked to this diver about going out and looking for it, but he never found the time.  Every time we went up to that resevoir, the water would recede a little bit each time, and I would dive down to where I thought it would be with no luck.  So today we noticed that the water level was WAY down, so I strapped on the goggles and looked around, again with no luck.  We were on our way out when we decided to stop at the check in shack and just ask if anyone had seen a prop lying around.  So the lady reached behind her and grabbed my brass two blade prop and said, "Like this one??"   NO WAY!!!   I couldn't beleive it!!  She said that someone had just turned it in a few days ago, and that it was just on the beach by the water line!  Crazy!  I was so dang excited I just had to tell everyone!!  Happy Labor Day to me!!  biggrin

...Thanx!biggrin

I forgot to mention, my brother usually goes out to the lake with us, and he was there this last Monday when we went.   I was out diving looking for the prop, and he had made the comment to my wife, "He's hasn't given up yet?!?!"   I think he was the most surprized out of all of us when I walked up to him prop in hand, OH YEAH!!  evileye
