He's "re-building" it. Seriously, I worked on it this past weekend. Cut boards for the motor mounts and I'm going to glass it soon. Still need resin so it really don't matter much cause soon as I get going it'll be time to stop!

Whooo HOOO I finally got a bucket of resin and have made progress. 5 gallons doesn't really go very far when working on the floor of an 18 footer, but I've got enough floor to start putting the engine and drive back in. Then when another $130 pops up I can finish the floor. We went out to the lake Sunday just to take it all in. It looks cold. Here's to summer!!!!!! CHEERS!

It's a stock 228 MCM, 305 w/4barrel Quadrajet. It's a basic boat. Probably about 55mph top end on a good day. Plenty for me. Course, I would like a 350 but if the 305 holds out, then I'll run it.

Maybe try an epoxy resin. It's a little more expensive, but very strong and little to no fumes! Although I'm in the "same boat" you are, (bad pun) it's all about findin' the extra cash that gets the project just a little further huh!?!

Yeah, I've got some West System Epoxy that I use for making filler and where I need extra strength in a small sample, but seriously the resin works best and when you're using 10 gallons the epoxy is just not a suitable option. Sides, the fumes are part of the whole process. Takes me back to 1967 when my dad rebuilt a little outboard boat in our garage.

Cool! What kind of fiberglass are you using? What do you think works best? When it warms up a bit, I'm going to be doing a lot of fiberglassin' myself!

And The Beat Goes On. I've cut a lot of pieces. Still need to do a final shaping and sand them. The floor is all in and the drive assembly is ready to go back in/on.... The corners of the dash posed a challenge. Took some cuts and some scoring to get it to bend and seperate and lay flat and in a curve and at an angle at the same time. Still a workin an progressin.

It's coming around and looking good. Get some wax paper and blue tape it to the fiberglass for those corner pieces. Then you can put plywood you cut and a layer of glass on them, another piece of wax paper for the outside, clamp up and in a few minutes those corner pieces will be hardened up and ready for another layer. Whamo add pad and vinyl and your in biz.
Wax paper! Excellent idea. I was going to use plastic sheeting, but wax paper will work better I'm sure. Thanks Glenn. I've got a huge roll of NOS green padded Glastron upholstery that's part of a big bunch I got a long time ago. Since, it's basically "free", I'm going to use it. It's going to be GREEN! very green...... It will make some green with envy and others green around the gills!!! ;) We've discussed putting some grey inserts here and there, but let's face it, that costs more and takes more. I'm in for the easy way out. Sides, it'll be DONE! Run! Float! That's the ticket!

Mine runs and floats but will need some attention next few years. That's what I want a boat for. My brother on the other hand restored a 1959 wood runabout near perfect in my eyes, but never has seen the water. Different floats for different folks.
It's going to look a lot like the CVCX-16's interior I did a couple years ago. Only, instead of blue it will be green. Very similar pattern. I'm going to put a grey carpet to offset the green. I'll post pics as I begin to put it together.

Thats the piping pattern I was talking about. Makes me want to find a project to get on, I might start looking around for a small I/O to mess with, no brand in particular just something cheap , fun and salvageable.
Glenn, you know as well as I do... It does a man good to keep his hands busy. Personally, I can find nothing I like tinkering on more than a boat. I have a mini bike, a go cart and my lawn mower all need work. But, nooooooo, I'm working on the boat. One that I can not even use right now. It's all about "Next time!"

Still making progress on this rig. I got much of the wood done. Right now, tonight, I'm pulling out old rotten wood from behind the gunnels. ALL of it is rotten. I pulled out all that old nasty foam crap too! That makes every, EVERY piece of wood in this boat was rotten!! Sucks BIG time!! Gonna be, Is, a dirty job. Puttin in the new is going to be messy too! First time I've had to pull out all this stuff. The past two Glastron resto's were not rotten. Even my 65'.

Damnage sorry to here. Can't see you out working unless you have good garage heat. It's cold in Texas. Austin Shut down today. Everyone in the north is laughing at us.
yes, actually I have a good heating system. Roof is covered with snow, and it's 70 in the shop. I've got lots done. I ran out of resin again. Gotta get five more gallons. Till then I'm doing drive work.

Little bits at a time. Drive housing is in. Getting cushions ready for upholstery. Added a ski tow and a custom hole through the back seat. Good enough and keeps the classic lines intact.

I just picked up the old T-179. It has been in storage for the past 2 years uncovered....with the custom fit cover folded up in the floor. Needless to say the whole interior has dry rotted and it is completely oxidized, tried buffing with no luck. I am real close to going postal. Here is the before link. http://www.boatrant.com/forum.spark?aBID=120496&p=3&topicID=24151485
I will never understand why someone has a cover and does not use it. LAZY! I guess. I gave a buddy of mine a 1983 SSV-176 here while back. It was a good boat. Came with a custom cover like brand new. I paid $100 for boat and cover. It had no motor or trailer. It had been in an accident and had some "bashes" in the bow. They did not hurt anything, but looks. He's been using it for three years. The boat has gone to "S#1+" but anyway, I found the cover folded up laying in the yard the other day. WTH? I took it, it was filled with ants. Cleaned it up and gave it to another friend that has a Granada, 17. They are just like the SSV lines from Glastron. Fortunately the cover is not garbage like one may think. Imagine how well it would have protected his boat. Oh well.....
I got buckets finished for the CVZ. With little exception, they came out pretty good. I built them from a pattern I got from Chris Kochman in Arizona.

On Glens oxidation. Mine is not perfect but I wetsanded with 400 then 1000 then rubbing compound, with a power buffer, then polishing compond then wax. It is not perfect and needs waxing alot to keep it looking wet.
I'm not sure about that. I'm very adept at this and they've been a challenge. I've already got hours and hours getting them cut out, sanded, primed and assembled. The upholstery will be my next battle. I'll let you know how it goes.

I finally got all the wood back up behind the gunnels. Messy, Messy, Messy.... Now I have to figure a way to get the tubes on the starboard side to stay up under there while the glass dries. I figure some kind of stick or something wedges up under there. I'm using a roll from a tp roll at work. They look just like the ones I took out. You know, the pieces the wiring, steering cable and control cables run through for supports.

Another great idea Glenn. I do have some of that. I could use the wax paper to keep it outa the resin. Ding Ding!!!! Last night I was about to make some sticks to wedge it up under there, but was, well, we'll just say I was taken away with a better option. So, it was meant to be. Awesome!! Thanks GW!

Bow seats and bow gunnel pads - done, rear deck pads - done, bucket seats - done. The bench seat and mid ship gunnels are all I lack. The upholstery will be done SOON!!!! Whoo hoooo. I also got a tool to install the drain sleeve and gasket orings to install the exhaust "Y" pipe.
