Fixing a dinged prop...

confuseHere is a great prop question:  I was telling my brother that I was looking for a prop with a pitch 19 or higher to replace the one I have.  (15P)   So he shows up with one with a 19 pitch, and says he found it for free.  It should fit cuz it was from a big Merc too.  He says it was pretty dinged up, so he took a grinder to it!  I was very excited and thanked him profusely.  Now that I get to thinkin' about it, should I even use it?  Should I take it to a prop guy to make sure it is all true?  Or should I just slam it on and try it out and see how it does?  It looks pretty good in general, but I'm wondering if he did more damage than good?  Any thoughts??

About the only thing I think would happen is that you would get alot of vibration.
You should still be able to run it and get an idea if you are going in the right direction (pitch).
Going from a 15 to a 19 will be a tremendous difference, if you like the prop you can go to a prop shop. Around here to have it balanced is about $40, you can have pitch or cup added with a balance and it shoulded run you more than about $75. Or just leave it alone and save it for a backup prop.
