I like the term "Old Glass"! That's just what I have is a 1958 Glastron Fireflite. It was the second year that Glastron came out with a fiberglass boat. My avatar shows what it looks like when finished, but I am very blessed to have a sister that can make websites, so she made one for me to showcase the restoration of my baby beginning to end! Check it out and let me know what you think. It's my first boat project, so I'd love to hear your thoughts, good or bad. Here is the link:
I better show off my latest project. It's not much to look at...yet! I just picked it up a couple of weeks ago. It's a 1970 Fiberform Continental Mercruiser 165hp 6cyl. I've done a little to it just to get it through the winter, then I'll jump on it in Spring. Here's a few pics, if they'll upload.

Okay, I guess you could say this is "Old WOOD"! If you have read my ramblings on my website about how I aquired my '58 Glastron, you will find out that I was originally going to restore my Grampa's old boat that he built with his bare hands back in the early '80s! It was too far gone, and the trailer too, for that matter. Well, I'm way excited to have found these pictures of it, that I just HAD to post them! He had a 7.5 Hp Evinrude with a tiller, and I remember that he only took it out to the lake a couple of times. He had it sitting IN HIS GARAGE!, But come to find out many years later that neglectful relatives had shoved it out into the harsh Canadian winter weather to fend for itself!! RUDE! So there is really not much left to try and restore.

My brother-in-law has really wanted a boat for a long time, and this Fiberform would be a great project boat for him, so I let him have it. He just towed it away today. I think one boat is plenty for me, plus I still have some tuning up to do on the Glastron. I just got a new prop off E-bay (21 pitch) which I think will help the performance a lot! It's an aluminum prop that was painted black, but yesterday I sanded it down and polished it. It turned out really nice, and fit real nice! I'll have to take a picture...

My brother is restoring a 59 wood boat. It's looking real good. It has the original 59 70 hp 6 cyl Merc. They called it the dockbuster because it is direct drive. When you start it's moving. Starts backward for reverse. Pretty cool technology. Should be ready this year will get some pics. Can't remember the manufacture but I think the model is called bumble bee. It's 14' and was made in Denison TX.
I had a 150 inline before and a 19" 4 blade prop and could run around 50 mph. The prop was a composite/plastic design. Was cheap 80 bucks. Launched and turn real good. Lasted one month. Got a chip, no big deal but the hub had play also, big deal. Sounded good on paper. Including a pic. Check out the exhaust openings. There alot bigger that my 21. Now I have a 115 inline with a 21p alm. Wasn't getting rpms so cut a 1/4 inch or so off each blade. Got my rpms now but slower mph. Must have more slip. Had to experiment. Try a 19 again next. Really like the hull design. After I trim for top speed I can bring the bow down a little and it feels real tight and stable. Having said that my fun meter still hits 100! That's what I'm after.
There's nothing like the CVX-16 for the thrill of speed. Light weight, you can power them up, and they hold true. I Like them! Mine had a 135hp Johnson on 4" jack plate and would run 55mph @ 6000 rpm with 22p Raker.

A bad day in my boat is better than any other day!
Had to push my 150 a little past 6000 to reach the 50 mph mark with the 19 pitch. Maybe that's why it's doing 0 rpm in my storage! Bought the 150 well used and used in salt water. Very common down here. #3 was always down 15# compression from the others. Guess which piston melted. My 115 has great compression so am planning to get the right prop on it. Get close to 50 top speed and do most my crusing between 4000 and 4500 and make it last.
