We're having a wonderful drought today. Toads drowning everywhere...
I'm on the beautiful blue waters of Lake Norman (that is until the water gets really stirred up, then it's orange/red) in central NC. Part of the Catawba River chain of lakes impounded and operated by Duke Power Co., it is the largest lake at 520 miles of shoreline...very, very developed shoreline, I might add. Houses everywhere.
I have the usual family bowrider and lake lice, but I'm partial to my Raysoncraft v-drive hot rod. Other afflictions include a love for aviation/flying, amateur radio operation, and old muscle cars.
Who else is onboard from around here besides me and PondTunes??

If you've not been up there, the boating is real nice at the north end of the lake around Long Island. Several little islands to picnic on and a lot less boat traffic for water sports. You can go all the way to, and under, I-40 then it gets a bit rocky before you can get to the damn. The water is cleaner and cooler up there as well. There's a little marina (Bills) right next to the overhead car bridge, that has great food, gas, and beer. In the summer they would have live entertainment on the back deck. I did some "Wastin Aweigh" there for sure! Reccon I'll miss that nice fresh water this summer. Well, welcome aboard and have fun down thar! Wayne

Thanx for the welcomes.
Aircat, I can't count how many times we've floated downriver from Lookout Dam. You're right- it's quiet, the water's cool, and just watch out for those rocks above I-40! With the way low water, you could sure see more of them until recently. And hamburger time at Bill's once we got that far. Where are you now, and why ain't you here?
PondTunes, I'm just south of Stumpy Creek landing, and if I look around/thru my neighbor's boathouse, I could just see the ramp. I'm near the end of the runway at Lake Norman Airpark in a small cove on the east side of Stumpy Creek. I get down to Rusty Rudder occasionally, but spend alot more time up at Exit 36 Bar & Grill at the 150 bridge when the weather's nice and we can sit outdoors, usually on Sundays for lunch. I sometimes take out a home equity loan, fuel up the Raysoncraft, and make a McGuire run south, divert over to RR and fuel up again, then head back north. Lotsa fun if I remember the earplugs (and the home equity/fuel money). With the racket this thing makes, I kinda disturb the live music up at the restaurant....I know! I'll go over to the Peninsula Yacht Club with this thing next time! I'll bet they'll just love me there! Or maybe Midtown on the Lake? Hmmmm....

I am now near Yorktown, Va. The road I live on dead ends at a boat ramp (.2's mile) which is on a creek that leads to Chesapeake Bay. This was my LKN ride! (460 Ford/Berkelyjet)
