My little bro decided he needed speakers i the T-179 so we custom fabbed some boxes for it. They are designed to wedge between the top and bottom of the gunwale panels so we would not have to cut into a Classic. They are sprayed with a rubberized coating and topped off with flat black paint.
Those look really nice Glenn. I thought about doing that instead of cutting holes in the GT, but I figured I will be keeping this boat for a long time, so I cut into it. I think they will work out good where I put the speakers, and also where the radio is going to go.
What type of material did you use to build the boxes? For future projects i've found Huber Advantech to be second to none for speaker box/anything requiring plywood type construction...
This stuff is very similar to OSB/Particle board with one major exception, it does not absorb water at all! You can litereally throw a 4x8 sheet of the stuff in the lake, leave it for a week and it won't warp/absorb water/come apart.
They sell it at most major home supply stores so next time you do a project requiring marine plywood look at advantech instead!
Never heard of the Huber stuff, I'll look for it. I just used MDF and sprayed it with rubber undercarriage paint then topped it off with flat black. It will be splash proof, not water proof.
