CVZ 18 Progressing

Since she's no longer getting demolished It didn't seem right to continue under that heading, so a new thread it is.

Working on getting a floor now.  The transom is in and I'm making progress.

He's "re-building" it.  Seriously, I worked on it this past weekend.  Cut boards for the motor mounts and I'm going to glass it soon.  Still need resin so it really don't matter much cause soon as I get going it'll be time to stop!

Whooo HOOO  I finally got a bucket of resin and have made progress.  5 gallons doesn't really go very far when working on the floor of an 18 footer, but I've got enough floor to start putting the engine and drive back in.  Then when another $130 pops up I can finish the floor.   We went out to the lake Sunday just to take it all in.  It looks cold.  Here's to summer!!!!!!  CHEERS!

Oh, but I like the "burn".  I also like the propane heater turned up full blast!!!!  Plenty of ventilation though!!!  I go outside now and then.

It's a stock 228 MCM, 305 w/4barrel Quadrajet. It's a basic boat. Probably about 55mph top end on a good day. Plenty for me. Course, I would like a 350 but if the 305 holds out, then I'll run it.

Maybe try an epoxy resin.  It's a little more expensive, but very strong and little to no fumes!  Although I'm in the "same boat" you are, (bad pun) it's all about findin' the extra cash that gets the project just a little further huh!?!aww

Yeah, I've got some West System Epoxy that I use for making filler and where I need extra strength in a small sample, but seriously the resin works best and when you're using 10 gallons the epoxy is just not a suitable option. Sides, the fumes are part of the whole process. Takes me back to 1967 when my dad rebuilt a little outboard boat in our garage.

Cool!
What kind of fiberglass are you using?  What do you think works best?
When it warms up a bit, I'm going to be doing a lot of fiberglassin' myself!

I been using just a basic blend.  Red turned me on to a place in OKC that sells it for $130 for 5 gallons.  then use a lot of mostly mat, not much cloth
